I, Librarian 4.0 further improves its PDF viewer

The new version of I, Librarian contains many improvements and bug fixes. The most notable are performance and usability enhancements of the built-in PDF Viewer. The changes are not backwards compatible.

Reference Manager Enhancements

  • inactive Desk Projects are pushed to the bottom in Desk section
  • PDF notes and rich-text notes can be exported for all files in a Desk Project
  • stable links for opening an item in separate tab have been added in all list views
  • PDF icons have higher resolution
  • GUI design and themes were changed both in desktop and mobile version
  • more BibTex publication types are now supported
  • a Report type is now supported
  • more category filters have been added
  • CSL citation styles were updated
  • a time zone can be set in Settings
  • a full path to LibreOffice can be set in Installation Details on Windows
  • minor GUI improvements
  • the LDAP authentication has been improved
  • the caching was re-written to scale up to 100,000 records
  • Clipboard was re-written to scale up to 100,000 records
  • the folder structure in the library was changed
  • stop words are not removed from PDF index anymore
  • batch re-indexing tool is available to make previous PDF indexes compatible with the new search
  • some ilibrarian.ini values were changed, refer to ilibrarian-default.ini
  • a custom path to the library folder can be added in ilibrarian.ini
  • a custom path to the temporary folder can be added in ilibrarian.ini
  • PDFtk dependency was removed
  • PDFdetach from Poppler is now used to unpack PDF-attached files
  • a new PHP setting max_input_vars is now checked (recommended value is 10,000)

PDF Viewer Enhancements

  • PDF Viewer was optimized to display ~1,000-page PDFs
  • PDF pages have higher resolution of 192dpi
  • PDF pages are loaded earlier during the document scrolling
  • PDF text is copied to Clipboard immediately when a text box is selected
  • supplementary files are not directly attached to a PDF, instead a ZIP archive is created

Bug fixes

  • a bug where user settings where not applied properly was fixed
  • a bug where temporary directory access rights were not checked was fixed
  • a bug where IEEE search produced no results was fixed
  • a bug where batch uploading PDFs caused time out errors was fixed
  • a bug where auto-sign in failed was fixed
  • a bug where directory selection did not work on Windows was fixed
  • a bug where the whole-word expert search did not produce correct results was fixed
  • a bug where empty item lists were throwing JS errors in calendar was fixed
  • a bug where empty item lists were throwing JS errors in keywords was fixed
  • a bug where PDF note tooltips were not displayed was fixed
  • a bug where some extensions were missing in Windows installer was fixed
  • a bug where proxy password was exposed in settings was fixed
  • a bug where editors were imported as authors from CrossRef was fixed
  • a bug where journal names were not exported to BibTex was fixed
  • a bug where search results were not cleared in PDF Viewer was fixed
  • a bug where custom fields were incorrectly exported to BibTex was fixed
